For example, Hannibal Lecter is obviously the bad guy and we (the audience) are never encouraged or expected to take some enjoyment in his murders. In this hentai we are expected to jack-off and enjoy everything * precisely because it’s fucked-up* or in spite of the fact that it’s fucked-up. Unlike some action movies where the innocent by-standers are killed or the force used by the protagonist was excessive, the movie seldom ever allows the audience to dwell on those acts at least until after the movie is over.
If we are watching Jigsaw (John Kramer) torture his captives, we are never expected to feel his contentment when they survive, instead we are expected to understand why he does what he does but never expected to derive pleasure from the murders. If we did, that would be called fucking disgusting. Not edgy, hardcore, or avant-garde, it would be describe as trying to desensitize people.
At best, a movie has to make the audience hate a murder victim as much as possible before we get satisfaction from it. But in that case we aren’t deriving pleasure from murder per-se, but from seeing someone getting some punishment that they deserve and even then the movie has to be careful not to over-do it.
